2011 marks the Return of the Philadelphia Challenge Cup

The 2011 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, Presented by Coca-Cola® will host the return of rowing's premiere Amateur Single Sculling Championship event on the Schuylkill River.

The City of Philadelphia, along with the Philadelphia Gold Challenge Cup Foundation are proud to announce the return of the Philadelphia Challenge Cup event –The Gold Cup, at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, Presented by Coca-Cola®, Saturday, May 14, 2011, on the Schuylkill River.

The Philadelphia Challenge Cup is presented to the undisputed amateur single sculling champion of the world. Inspired by John B. Kelly Sr., a Philadelphian and 1920 Olympian (Brussels, Belgium), the newly revitalized event will showcase the top four men and women single scullers in the world.

These elite athletes will row in separate men's and women's races. Each champion will receive a newly minted commemorative of the Gold Cup along with a prize award of $10,000. Second and third place finishers will be awarded $5,000 and $2,500 respectively.

Related to the Philadelphia Challenge Cup, the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta is offering to rowers from high schools and colleges a unique opportunity to attend rowers clinics, hosted Olympic rowers.

These will be held in 8 Aberdeen Dad Vail sponsor tents on Thursday 5/12/2011 at 4:00 PM. They will run roughly one hour. Each tent can hold up to 50 people so we have a maximum of 400 people who can sign up. First come, first served.

The Aberdeen Dad Vail Corporate Challenge

The Aberdeen Dad Vail Corporate Challenge, hosted by Team Concepts, is a chance for Corporations in the greater Philadelphia region to become part of and compete in, the largest US collegiate regatta of the Year.

In its 73rd year, and considered to be one of the most anticipated Philadelphia events of the season, the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta hosts 120 different college and university men and women’s crew teams from around the country. This two day event, to take place on the 13th and 14th of May this year, truly encompasses what it means to be part of an American tradition.

The Corporate Challenge is held mid-day during the last day of races. Divided up into four categories, based on the crews’ level of experience and fitness, each corporation who enters will be competing in a 500 meter race with other corporations throughout Philadelphia. Each corporate sponsor will be competing in eight person boats with at least three from each gender in each boat. For each of the four events gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place respectively.
