DAD VAIL REGATTA WELCOMES INDEPENDENCE BLUE CROSS SUPPORT AS PRESENTING SPONSOR
Philadelphia, PA, April 25, 2017 – Philadelphia’s premiere rowing event, the Dad Vail Regatta, just became stronger.
Independence Blue Cross (Independence) has become a presenting sponsor of the Dad Vail Regatta and will provide support for this iconic Philadelphia tradition, now in its 79th year. This year’s Regatta will be held Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 on the Schuylkill River. As the country’s largest collegiate rowing event, the Regatta annually attracts more than 100 universities and colleges and 3,500 athletes equally divided between men and women from over 25 states and Canada.
“Dad Vail Rowers personify Independence “Live Fearless,” optimism to embrace life fully,” says Jim Hanna, president of the Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee. “This is an ideal partnership because health, fitness and rowing are inextricably linked. In a sport that requires the athletes to be in superb shape, this partnership with Independencesymbolizes all the wonderful benefits associated with excellent fitness and health.”
“Thousands of student-athletes and tens of thousands of spectators will gather at the Schuylkill River on May 12 and May 13 to celebrate fitness and community, and Independence Blue Cross is pleased to join them,” said Daniel J. Hilferty, Independence president and CEO. “The Dad Vail is a signature Philadelphia event, and we are proud to help make it happen this year.”
Named after beloved rowing coach Harry Emerson “Dad” Vail, who was one of the sport’s most passionate advocates, the Regatta attracts tens of thousands of spectators. Every year they line the banks of the Schuylkill River to enjoy the spirited competition and festive atmosphere.
Among the universities and colleges competing in the upcoming Dad Vail Regatta, virtually every local school will be there: Villanova University, LaSalle University, Philadelphia University, St. Joseph’s University and Drexel University. The Drexel Dragons have won the overall point trophy for the past four straight years.
